Marcos Chaves’ art practice evolved over the years through a variety of projects and works that span across media and mediums. Marcos Chaves, the youngest of seven siblings, was born in Rio de Janeiro on January 21, 1961. He was raised in Santa Teresa, where he still has his studio. He was close to Mara Chaves, his aunt who worked as an architect for Wilson Reis Netto [pt]. This triggered his training at Universidade Santa Ursula in architecture and urbanism (1979). During this period he was introduced to Arte Povera artists and aesthetics, another inspiration for his later work.
